This is the page I created for a game idea that I have. It's called Danger from above. You control a bird and make it crap on the windshield of cars so that they crash. I made all of the art myself so far. The most recent piece of art was the picture of the Blue Jay toward the bottom of the page. I made that to be the favicon for the page. I tried to put a sinister look on his face since he likes to cause wreckage.

The game play would be similar to Galaga and other classic golden age arcade games. I just need some programmers so the game can be made. I thought of a variant in which you work for an insurance company and you control a small airplane. Then you use it to drop paint on people's windshields to cause them to crash. Then as the insurance company, you get to jack up people's insurance rates. Your score is based on how much you rip people off.

I made the art simple so far because I am just getting started on trying to make a project out of this. I plan to make the game project more than what it already appears. Making the game content isn't going to be much of a challenge for me, but I do need programmers. I like software freedom and the GNU/Linux operating system, but I love the phenomenon of homebrew gaming. I would like to make this into an arcade game and make money from it but I don't want it to become captured by the game industry. I am receptive to the philosophy of freely making it available but I do believe in receiving money as compensation to recover from distribution costs, but other than that, I am not interested in profiteering from it like the big software companies. I just want to have my own arcade machine to place in businesses and make money from games that I am involved in making. I have never made a game before but I have had a few ideas in the past, one idea for a game was Diet Martyr, which was a story of Malthusian dictatorship.

I am an artist, writer, and musician. I feel that I am great with ideas but I don't really have much programming experience at all. That is why I need help. I can't pay you since I don't really have much money. But what I can do is allow you to sell the game and thus get paid for your own work. But because my content would be involved with making the game, I would have some incentive to sell the game to get compensation. So anyone involved in the project can sell the game or take donations and that is fine with me. I like the way GNU/Linux is made and distributed and I am trying to incorporate that style into my projects. I like the idea of giving some copies away for free if it does not really cost me anything, but I would like to get into the arcade business and show people how great that software freedom can be. My plan is to revitalize some of the arcade market and bring sprite gaming back since most game companies refuse to do. I would like to see the game made and also ported to many computer and game console platforms.

I would like to see the game developed first for GNU/Linux so that I can promote that operating system. Unlike the major game/software companies, once a copy of my game is sold, people can pretty much do whatever they want with it. I am mostly concerned with my ability of using it in an arcade situation and not pay distribution costs out of my own pocket. One goal of mine is to make a statement about how the industry functions. I really don't like when they essentially force you to not play their games when they are no longer available on the market and you can't obtain them in other ways because of how the "Intellectual Property" (copyright and patent) laws are used. I would allow people to install the game or make copies/adaptations to play it on as many systems as they want. My main preference is that I am free to use the game in whatever way that I want, make it available to people who want to play it, and I want recognition for works in such a project. Derrived works are fine with me too but I want recognition if someone makes something based on my work.

So contact me if you are a programmer and want to work on this project. I would love to make an arcade game from this, have me a small business doing such, express my ideas, bring back 2-D sprite gaming, and having fun.
Send me an e-mail through my contact form if you would like to get started in making this game idea of mine.
